turnin' one: our first thrift pop-up in Delhi, with Delhi Trail Tribe

turnin’ one

Ahorro’s first IRL thrift pop-up in New Delhi, in collaboration with Delhi Trail Tribe.

For a year now, ahorro has existed almost entirely as photographs. A zebra rug, a wooden floor, a pile of shells and fleeces and beanies shot from above, posted to Instagram, sold through DMs and a Shopify checkout, packed into India Post boxes and sent to Bangalore, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kathmandu, and a surprising number of places further out than that.

That works. But it means almost nobody who buys from us has ever touched a piece before it arrived at their door, and almost nobody who follows us has met anyone else who does. So for the first birthday we’re taking the pile off the phone and putting it on a table.

Why a hiking club

Gorpcore in India tends to get talked about as a look — a shell jacket worn to a coffee shop, a fleece worn nowhere near a mountain. Fine. We sell to plenty of people who will never take a Baltoro above 2,000 metres, and that’s not a problem.

But the clothes came from somewhere. Every piece in the archive was built for weather, and the reason it’s still wearable twenty or thirty years later is that it was over-engineered for a job. Delhi Trail Tribe actually does that job — they run trails out of the city most weekends, for people who mostly started with no gear and no idea. Putting the two rooms together felt obvious.

So: if you want to know what a hardshell is for, there will be people there who can tell you. If you just want to dig through a table of fleeces and drink a coffee, that’s equally the point.

What’s on the table

A hand-picked cut of the archive, brought in person:

  • Archive shells and hardshells
  • Fleeces — snap-Ts, grids, half-zips
  • Beanies, toques and caps
  • Hiking and cargo pants
  • Tees, and whatever else earns its place by Saturday

Everything is secondhand, everything is one-of-one, everything is sourced from local flea and thrift markets. Same price as the website. We have never run a discount and we’re not starting at our own birthday.

How to get on the list

It’s invite only because the room is small, not because we’re being difficult. DM @ahorro.in and we’ll add you. If you’re not in Delhi but you’re passing through, say that too — people have travelled further for worse.

Future pop-ups, meets and drops get announced on the events page and to the email list first.

One year in

Thanks for buying the weird jackets. See you Saturday.
